Executive Director’s message

There is so much going on right now, and your livelihood is at stake.  With the economy doing poorly, combined with a Governor that does not like state employees (or public services), now is the time more than ever to stand with your NAPE/AFSCME brothers and sisters.  It is fight like we have not seen in years.  We have 400+ state jobs at stake.  Lay offs are already happening on a limited basis, but that will be on the increase.  We also will most likely lose 250-275 workers in DHHS Economic Assistance department with the deplorable NO ACCESS NEBRASKA that DHHS continues to roll out.  We will not stop fighting and it will take all of us along with community partners, other constituants in all the State Senators legislative districts to try to continue to delay the move to call centers and the local offices closing.  We ALL need to continue to fight for those critical public services. 

As the largest local union in the state of Nebraska, NAPE/AFSCME Local 61 continues to make strides in providing information to our members on a more real time basis.  This website is only one way we are doing that.  We also are wanting our members home e mail addresses.  So drop us an e mail or give us a call, so we can e mail information directly to our members.  Be sure to look for updates to our website on an ongoing basis.  As a NAPE member, if you have suggestions for the website, please let us know.   Remember to spread the word and communicate with your co workers and encourage them to join.  Without NAPE/AFSCME and a Collective Bargaining Agreement you would be an “at will” employee, at the mercy of management.  Remind folks that, “You’re either at the table, or you’re on the menu”.   So come and have a seat and join OUR table – the table of power for the employees!
