Lincoln Member is DHHS Developmental Disabilities Mentor of the Month

NAPE/AFSCME member Avery Hulse, a Program Specialist for the Department of Health and Human Services, was awarded the Department of Developmental Disabilities (DD) Mentor of the Month Award.

The Mentor of the Month awards employees who show exemplary leadership skills in the division and who go above and beyond to encourage their teammates and commit to fostering a positive work environment.

Since joining the policy and waiver team in May, Avery said she has made a point to learn as much as she can about her new position.

“I feel like I’ve become a point person for our team. I’ve always been the type of person who isn’t afraid to ask for help when I don’t know something or to do the research required to find answers,” she said. “I want to do the best possible job because our division helps serve one of the most vulnerable populations in Nebraska, and it’s fulfilling to be a part of that process.”

The department recognized Avery’s commitment to enhancing not only her work but also that of her entire team.

“We have a bigger impact when things are working well internally,” she said. “I was surprised when I got the award, and it felt good to be recognized for the work I’ve been putting in since joining DD. It also felt good to know I’m making an impact and I’m succeeding in helping other people in my division.”

Please join us in congratulating Avery on winning the Mentor of the Month award!
