The NAPE/AFSCME Board of Directors began the new 2025-2027 term with its first regular meeting on May 31 at NAPE Headquarters in Lincoln. Ten new board members were sworn into office joining ten members who were re-elected and the five officers of our union on the board.
Before the meeting began, new board members participated in an orientation session to learn the basics of Robert’s Rules of Order, board procedures, and the duties of a board member. “I’m excited to be representing my fellow union members on the board,” said Chasity Jenny (Foster Care Review Office, North Platte). “I have a lot to learn procedurally, but I’m happy to amplify my colleagues’ voices, especially from Western Nebraska, in Lincoln.
After being sworn in, the new board members wasted no time diving into a lengthy agenda for their first meeting. The board heard a report from the membership committee reporting that union membership continues to grow and we are at a record high membership approaching 3,500 members. The membership rights committee reported on a number of victories union members had enforcing our contract through the grievance process.
The board also approved a balanced budget for Fiscal Year 2026. This is the seventh consecutive year the board has adopted a balanced budget, and our union’s financial position continues to be strong. The board also heard a final report on this year’s legislative session, and a lengthy legal report on cases our union has pending before administrative bodies, the district court, and even the Nebraska Supreme Court.
“I’m proud of the work that we have done over the past seven years to organize our union, balance our budgets, and ensure we have the resources to fight for our members,” said NAPE/AFSCME Treasurer Jay Jensen (NDOT, Omaha). “I’m really excited to have these outstanding new board members join us.” You can meet all the board members here.
