NAPE Welcomes Two New Staff to Our Field Team

Our union is excited to welcome two new staff members to our field team. Kelcy Johnson joins us as our Field Manager and Madeleine Hatler is our newest Field Representative. Union members have access to our field team to assist with contract enforcement and work related issues.

Kelcy joins us having previously served as Vice President of AFSCME Local 251 in Omaha and as a National Organizer for the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE). Kelcy got her start in the Omaha Parks Department and has been advocating for public employees ever since.

“My degree is in horticulture, and I worked at the Henry Doorly Zoo right out of college. I was a new mom, and management took away a lot of benefits,” Kelcy said. “I needed better pay and benefits and the AFSCME Local 251 union contract for Omaha Parks guaranteed it for me.” Kelcy has been a union member and advocate ever since. “My favorite part of my work is meeting the members who work together to serve the public,” Kelcy said.

Madeleine previously worked as a domestic violence advocate at the Rose Brooks Center in Kansas City, Missouri. While at Rose Brooks, Madeleine led a successful union organizing campaign with the Laborer’s International Union (LIUNA), which resulted in Rose Brooks becoming the first unionized domestic violence shelter in Missouri.

Madeleine led the organizing campaign because she started at Rose Brooks three months after giving birth to her son. “One of my colleagues also gave birth and had to get financial help from her church because we didn’t have paid parental leave,” Madeleine said. “I’m so excited that NAPE members won paid maternity leave in our last contract.”

Both Madeleine and Kelcy are excited to work with NAPE members. You can contact our field team by clicking here.
