We Are Nebraska: Protect Public Services

State employees are uniting to protect the public services that our fellow Nebraskans rely on. The governor has directed state agencies to cut their budgets by $500 million in advance of this year’s legislative session. Frontline state employees know that budget cuts of this magnitude would be catastrophic to the vital services they deliver. That’s why we’ve launched our “We Are Nebraska: Protect Public Services” campaign.

Hundreds of union members attended our informational webinars to learn about the Governor’s proposed state budget cuts and what our union is doing to protect public services. Here are some ways you can get involved:

  • Not a union member? Join your union today.
  • Know your rights! All union meetings in November and December will focus on your rights in the event of a Reduction in Force (lay off) at your agency. Find meeting dates here. We’ll also host a virtual training on December 1. Register here.
  • Become a worksite leader by attending our Leadership Training in Omaha, November 14 & 15. Hotel and meals are provided. Register here.
  • NAPE/AFSCME representatives will be visiting worksites throughout the state during November and December. Stop by to pick up a free t-shirt and discuss ways to get involved. Find your worksite visit here.

From now throughout the legislative session this winter, we’ll unite to educate Nebraskans on the importance of the work we do, enforce our contract to protect our rights, and demand that our legislators protect the public services that our neighbors rely on.

It has never been more crucial to educate others on the important work we do for Nebraska. We must make our voices heard to ensure these cuts do not harm services we provide to our fellow Nebraskans.

If you are not a member of our union, will you join us today? Stand with your coworkers, strengthen our voice, and send a message that $500 million in budget cuts is unacceptable.
