2024 State of Nebraska Contract Negotiations Priorities

After a weekend of debate, dialogue, and collaboration, member-elected delegates to the NAPE/AFSCME Biennial Bargaining Conference voted to determine our 2024 State of Nebraska contract negotiations priorities. The delegates prioritized three key focus areas for the bargaining table.

Competitive Wages

  • Appropriate minimum starting salaries for each job classification
  • Must account for inflation and insurance increases
  • Step increases for satisfactory or better performance

Leave Benefits

  • Earned sick leave payout for all employees
  • Greater earned sick leave payout upon retirement
  • Exchange earned sick leave for health insurance coverage in retirement
  • Paid parental leave
  • Catastrophic sick leave bank
  • E bargaining unit leave earnings equal to other members

Remote Work Opportunities

  • Where efficient & effective

A number of additional agency-specific proposals such as multilingual premium pay, overtime reform, clothing allowances, and more were also prioritized.

Members can learn more about the details of our priorities at an upcoming union meeting or at our August 26 virtual meeting. Register for the virtual meeting in advance by clicking here.

We will host a Negotiations Kickoff Rally in Lincoln on September 10 from 5-6:30pm on Centennial Mall outside the Nebraska State Office Building. A short program of speakers will begin at 5:30pm.
