New Members Tell Us Why They Joined NAPE/AFSCME

NAPE/AFSCME membership is at a 25 year high, with new members joining every day. In fact, in July alone, more than 240 state employees became new union members.

Kable Davis became a member of NAPE/AFSCME during our July organizing Blitz when Volunteer Member Organizers visited him at his home to chat about his work and give him information about our union.

Kable is a Maintenance Specialist I at the Nebraska State Penitentiary. He enjoys his work, and appreciated that our VMOs tried to get to know more about him and his work when they visited.

Kable ultimately joined our union because he has “always been a firm believer that it’s better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it,” he said. “To have that protection behind me brings a sense of security.”

When he’s not at work, Kable enjoys spending time outdoors with his family and two dogs.

Rachel Boyce, a Developmental Disabilities Service Coordinator also joined during our organizing Blitz when our VMOs visited her workplace in Omaha.

Rachel said she decided to become a union member because she has “always been a person who’s passionate about giving a voice to the voiceless and advocating for change when needed.”

In her spare time, Rachel enjoys playing and watching volleyball with her family.
If you are not yet a union member, please join us today. We are continuing to grow for more power at the bargaining table and to make sure we are the strongest advocates for all state employees.
