NAPE/AFSCME union membership is at a 25-year high, and our growth hasn’t slowed one bit. It’s because of our growth that we were able to negotiate the best union contract in the 35-year history of the State Employees Collective Bargaining Act. There’s an unmistakable link between the number of members we have and our power at the bargaining table, which is why we plan to continue to grow over the next year before negotiations begin again in September 2024.
Union member delegates to our 2023 Biennial Delegate Assembly adopted an updated strategic plan and launched our “3,000 Strong: United Together” campaign. Our goal is to have 3,000 union members for the first time in our history prior to beginning negotiations.
Our members are uniting behind the 3,000 Strong campaign in order to set us up for success in the coming years. We know that a united front gives us the best opportunity to secure better wages, benefits, and working conditions for Nebraska employees.
“This campaign is important because we would be making history. Not only that but the sheer strength of 3,000 members can’t be underestimated,” said Executive Committee Sergeant-at-Arms Brandon Brown, a Senior Revenue Agent at the Nebraska Department of Revenue. “It’s fairly easy to cut one board, it’s almost impossible to cut 3,000 in one fell swoop.”
Every state worker deserves to have a voice at the bargaining table, and every new member makes it more likely that those voices are heard. If you’re not already a member of our union, will you join us today?
