State College Contract Negotiations Are Underway

Our Nebraska State College System (NSCS) negotiations team has made early progress on our negotiations priorities that union members set in August. These priorities include salary increases that account for inflation, insurance increases, and rewards members with satisfactory or better performance evaluations.

Other priorities include the option to be paid for overtime work in cash rather than compensatory time, additional salary lanes for experience, and anniversary-based salary increases.

The negotiations team: Jason Blanford (Maintenance Tech IV, Chadron), Tyler Foote (Maintenance Tech IV, Wayne), Kelly Overshiner (Custodian, Chadron), and Brandon Ziska (Security Officer II, Wayne), are optimistic about reaching our goals and will continue making strides toward tentative agreements.

“Successful negotiations can lead to significant improvements in workplace conditions, which can positively impact many lives. I want to make sure my colleagues’ voices are heard at the bargaining table and I’m excited about collaborating with my peers who share a sense of camaraderie and passion for what we’re trying to accomplish,” said Brandon Ziska who is serving on the NSCS bargaining team for the third time.

Kelly Overshiner echoed many of the same sentiments. She also stressed the importance of union members standing together as contract negotiations progress this winter.

“I want to see our members be present at meetings and I’m excited to work together with members from other colleges to make positive changes for all of us,” she said.

The NSCS bargaining team will be back at the table this month to continue advocating for members’ priorities. We will share updates on our progress as negotiations progress.

It’s time for all employees to stand together as we negotiate new union contracts for the State of Nebraska, Nebraska State College System, and Nebraska Department of Education employees. Solidarity makes us strong. If you’re not yet a union member, click here to join today!
