Calleigh Tatum, a Youth Justice Specialist for the Nebraska Crime Commission, became a member of our union on her first day of work.
Calleigh comes from a union family and has always recognized the importance of strong leadership and advocacy on the job.
“My grandpa was in his union when he worked for the US Postal Service and I saw the impact that being a member had on his life,” she said. “I felt it was important for me to be a part of something similar.”
Calleigh is excited about her new job with the State, which will include helping to write grants and conduct training on youth justice, diversion programs, and much more.
As a new union member, Calleigh is excited to start attending meetings and become a union leader.
“I’d love to have a leadership position in our union. Being a leader interests me because it’s important to me to bring change to my community, which is why I do what I do at work,” she said. “So, if I can bring positive change for those who work with me at the State, that’s something I want to play an active role in. I want to be a workplace advocate for myself and my colleagues.”
As our union continues to reach record membership, it is more important than ever that both our new and veteran members step into leadership roles. Members like Calleigh play a vital role in our continued efforts to advocate for one another in the workplace. If you’re not yet a union member, join us today!
