Looking to Help Shape Our Union’s Future? Serve on a Committee

In accordance with our bylaws, the NAPE/AFSCME Biennial Delegate Assembly will convene in Lincoln August 15-17, 2025. The Delegate Assembly is our union’s highest decision making body. Delegates will be elected by union members in April, and when they convene this summer, delegates will be responsible for electing our union’s officers, setting our dues, amending our bylaws, adopting our strategic plan and legislative platform, and making other important decisions that will shape our future.

In advance of delegate elections and the Delegate Assembly, NAPE/AFSCME President Melissa Haynes (DHHS, Fremont) will appoint union members to committees to make recommendations to the delegates on important topics. President Haynes is currently looking for interested union members to serve on our Bylaws, Strategic Plan, and Legislative Platform Committees.

The Bylaws Committee is chaired by Daniel Buchannon (DHHS, Beatrice). The Bylaws Committee is responsible for reviewing our current bylaws and making recommended edits to the bylaws to best serve our union.

The Strategic Plan Committee is chaired by Amy Peters (DHHS, Lincoln). The Strategic Plan Committee is responsible for reviewing our current strategic plan and recommending changes and additions to develop and support our goals for the coming two years.

The Legislative Platform Committee is chaired by Brandon Brown (Revenue, Lincoln). The Legislative Platform Committee is responsible for reviewing our current legislative platform and recommending changes and additions so that our Government Affairs Committee (GAC) has direction from the delegates on what our priorities should be in the Nebraska Legislature.

If you are interested in serving on a committee, please fill out this form no later than February 28. Committees will meet after normal working hours at NAPE/AFSMCE Headquarters in Lincoln. For those unable to attend in person committee meetings, a Zoom video conference option is available. Please consider stepping up to serve our union on a committee this spring.
