Become a Volunteer Member Organizer – July 19-26

Are you looking to improve your leadership skills? Would you like to help strengthen our union and visit with state employees around Nebraska about our new union contract? Then sign up to participate in our Volunteer Member Organizer (VMO) week from July 19-26. All union members are welcome to participate.

All participating members will come to Lincoln on Saturday, July 19 and Sunday, July 20. On Saturday, July 19, we’ll spend the day completing VMO training. On Sunday, July 20 we’ll refine our skills and finalize plans for the week ahead. We’ll also be joined by other AFSCME VMO’s from other states around the country.

From Monday, July 21 through Saturday, July 26, we’ll spread out all over the state to visit members at their worksites and at their homes to discuss our new contract, pay raises, and the importance of having a strong union. Participants have the option to stay at home or hit the road with their fellow union members.

Participants are welcome to use vacation or comp time to participate, or they can use union leave, which will allow them to be placed in an unpaid status at work. Participants on union leave can receive a “lost time” paycheck from NAPE/AFSCME. Members can’t earn overtime or additional money, but they will receive a paycheck from NAPE/AFSCME on July 31 to replace your lost wages in accordance with our policy. Lost time must be approved in advance.

In order to participate, click here to register no later than June 20. On the form, select whether you want to organize in your community or around the state. All VMOs must come to Lincoln July 19-20 to participate. NAPE will cover the cost of hotels and food throughout the week.
