NAPE/AFSCME union membership reached another record high in August with membership surpassing 3,600 members for the first time. We embarked on a reorganization in 2018 with just 951 union members, and now we’re nearly four times stronger and seeing results every day.
We launched our “3,000 Strong: United Together” campaign in 2024 to give us a stronger voice at the negotiations table last year. We beat that goal, and now we’re launching our “4,000 Forward” campaign. Our new goal is to have 4,000 members united as we begin contract negotiations in September 2026.
There has never been a better time to become a NAPE/AFSCME union member. With our stronger membership, we’ve won record pay raises and new benefits like paid maternity leave, catastrophic sick leave sharing, multilingual premium pay, and higher shift differentials. When we unite together, we win!
We must stay united and continue to grow because we have major challenges ahead. The governor is proposing devastating budget cuts that will lead to layoffs of state employees and the reduction of public services that our neighbors depend on. That’s why we’re organizing right now: to fight back against cuts and protect public services.
With “4,000 Forward” we will have a voice like never before. But in order to reach our goals and strengthen our collective voice, we need all state employees to become union members. If you are not a union member, join your union today, and help us move “4,000 Forward” together!
