Our union membership is at a record high, and we’ve seen success like never before. Now we need to use our new collective strength to protect our jobs and the public services our fellow Nebraskans depend on. Public services are under attack.
The governor is proposing $500 million in cuts to the state budget. That’s three times the amount of cuts that were made during the great recession that led to furloughs and layoffs. This level of budget reduction will lead to catastrophic cuts in public services. The governor confirmed that this will cause state employees to lose their jobs. In fact, we’ve already seen some agencies begin to preemptively lay off our members. So it’s time to get organized and stand up for public services.
That’s why we’re launching our “We Are Nebraska” campaign. From now throughout the legislative session this winter, we’ll unite to educate Nebraskans on the importance of the work we do, enforce our contract to protect our rights, and demand that our legislators protect the public services that our neighbors rely on.
To kick off our “We Are Nebraska” campaign, we will host a virtual meeting for union members on October 29, 2025 at 7pm central time. You can register to attend the meeting by clicking here. At the meeting we’ll discuss our plans and how you can get involved to protect public services.
