The NAPE/AFSCME Board of Directors held its regular meeting in Lincoln on October 18. In addition to conducting its regular business, the Board appointed two members to fill vacancies. Dawn Archuleta (Corrections, Lincoln) and Matthew Vajgrt (DMV, Grand Island) were both appointed to fill At-Large positions on the Board.
Dawn is a Licensed Practical Nurse for the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services. She currently works at the Central Office as the Medicaid Review Nurse, but has worked in different NDCS facilities in her ten years with the State.
Matt is a Motor Vehicle Examiner. You can catch him providing services to Nebraska motorists at the new Grand Island DMV Service Center. Matt has worked for the DMV for nearly four years. Both Dawn and Matt are excited to represent their fellow union members on the Board.
The Board also confirmed appointments of members to serve on standing committees. Everett Bloom (NDCS, Lincoln), Clarissa Gove (DMV, Lincoln), Madeline Johnson (DWEE, Lincoln), and E Nore (Education, Lincoln) will join the Membership, Organizational, Leadership & Membership Rights Committee.
Madeline Kettler (Veterans’ Affairs, Lincoln), Tom Jacobson (Labor, Lincoln), Brook Noordhoek (State Patrol, Lincoln), and Daniel Watson (Labor, Lincoln) were appointed to the bi-partisan Government Affairs Committee. The committee continues to be balanced by party registration.
Lexie Beam (DHHS, Omaha), Brandon Pierce (Veterans’ Affairs, Kearney), and Chance Taylor (DHHS, Omaha) were all appointed to the Recognition Committee and Ken Atkinson (DHHS, Lincoln) and Dylan Lester (Education, Lincoln) were each appointed to the Elections Committee.
In other business, the Board heard a lengthy membership rights and legal report reviewing pending litigation our union has pending in courts, including the Nebraska Commission of Industrial Relations (CIR) and Nebraska Supreme Court.
The board also adopted routine budget adjustments. Our budget remains balanced and our fiscal position is strong. The next regular meeting of the Board of Directors is Saturday, January 10 at 9am at NAPE/AFSCME headquarters in Lincoln. Board meetings are open for all union members to observe.
