In November, we launched our “We Are Nebraska: Protect Public Services” campaign in response to the Governor’s proposal to cut the state budget by $500 million and eliminate jobs. Union representatives visited over 30 worksites across the state during November and December to encourage state employees to get involved to protect public services. Over 1,100 state employees came by to learn more and stand with their coworkers to protect the frontline services our fellow Nebraskans rely on.
NAPE/AFSCME steward, Mackenzie Marrow (Library Commission, Lincoln), spoke with fellow state employees at multiple worksite visits. “One of my favorite things about being a NAPE steward is going to different worksites to meet other state employees who are passionate about what they do,” Mackenzie said. “Hardworking state employees are worried, not only about their job security, but the impact that it will have on the Nebraskans they serve every day when services could be disrupted or defunded. With a strong union, we can fight against the proposed state budget cuts and remind the Governor that we are Nebraska.”
Our union membership is at a record high, and now more than ever it’s important to stand with your coworkers to protect public services. We are calling on all state employees to stand with their colleagues and make their voices heard. Will you join your union today to protect public services?
