NAPE/AFSCME represents over 8,000 state employees who work in more than 400 job classifications. The more than 600 dedicated social services workers who provide vital services to Nebraskans in all 93 counties make up our largest job classification.
As our membership has grown to record numbers, our members have had victories like never before. Union membership for Social Services Workers has surpassed majority membership, and our SSWs have stood together to protect each other’s best interests. From enforcing their rights on overtime, flex time, and leave, to winning double overtime pay, SSWs have fought and prevailed in countless ways.
Our membership has reached a record high, and we’re not done growing yet. As we gear up to enter into contract negotiations in 2026, we need as strong of a voice as possible to improve wages, benefits, and working conditions.
If you’re not a union member, stand with your colleagues and join your union. We need you to strengthen our collective voice at the bargaining table. Will you join your union today?
