NAPE/AFSCME welcomed 172 state employees as new members of our union during 4,000 Forward Week! From July 20-24, our Volunteer Member Organizers visited more than 30 worksites across Nebraska and visited with more than 1,300 state employees about their priorities for upcoming contract negotiations.
NAPE/AFSCME union membership is at an all time high, and 4,000 Forward Week was an opportunity to grow our collective voice towards our goal of having 4,000 union members united for contract negotiations which will begin in September.
“I loved meeting with people from different state agencies that I normally wouldn’t get to speak with outside my work area,” said Volunteer Member Organizer Kai Weixelman (Game & Parks, Norfolk). “It was powerful to hear all the things that were important to folks for contract negotiations.”
Our membership is quickly approaching 4,000 members, as state employees look to make their voice heard at the bargaining table. NAPE/AFSCME President Melissa Schmid spent 4,000 Forward Week in Kearney, North Platte, and Scottsbluff. “It was great to visit with our members all across the state,” said Melissa. “It’s clear we’re going to be focused and united together at the bargaining table.”
