Our union set a goal to grow our membership to 4,000 this year, and NAPE/AFSCME union membership has reached another record high. We added 243 new members last month, and we know we can beat our goal during contract negotiations this year!
“Our members are fired up and ready to protect public services during contract negotiations,” said NAPE/AFSCME President Melissa Schmid (DHHS, Fremont). “Our Volunteer Member Organizers worked tirelessly having one-on-one conversations with state employees about their priorities for contract negotiations and the importance of a strong union to reach our shared goals. I know we’ll reach our goal and win a stronger contract.”
Union member delegates to the 2025 NAPE/AFSCME Delegate Assembly adopted our “4,000 Forward” campaign as part of our strategic plan. Since the plan was adopted our Volunteer Member Organizers (VMOs) have traveled all across Nebraska to listen to state employees’ concerns and share our vision for a stronger union.
Daniel Buchanan (DHHS, Beatrice) has been a VMO for over four years and is excited about our progress. “When I first became a VMO, our membership was around 2,000,” Daniel said. “It’s incredible how much progress we can make when we commit to a plan and unite together. That’s what it’s all about.”
