Nominations for delegates to the 2026 AFSCME Delegate Assembly & Convention are now open through May 14, 2026. The 2026 AFSCME Delegate Assembly & Convention will be held in Chicago, Illinois from August 17-21, 2026.
NAPE members will elect seven delegates to represent our local at the 2026 AFSCME Delegate Assembly. NAPE President Melissa Schmid (DHHS, Fremont) is an automatic delegate. Delegates will have their expenses and travel to Chicago paid in accordance with the NAPE member travel policy. Members serving as delegates will need to use vacation or compensatory time to be excused from work in order to attend the convention.
Delegates to the convention will represent NAPE and vote on changes to our constitution, set union policy by voting on resolutions, and delegates will elect a new AFSCME President and Secretary-Treasurer as Lee Saunders and Elissa McBride retire at the close of the convention. The deadline for nominations to be received is 4pm central time on May 14, 2026. Any eligible NAPE member can nominate themselves or another eligible member. Nominations can be submitted by clicking here. Nominations will also be accepted at an in person nomination meeting at NAPE/AFSCME Headquarters in Lincoln (1230 O St, Suite 120, 68508) at 5:30pm on May 12, 2026.
The election will take place electronically from May 18-May 29, 2026. Members will receive an email and text message with a unique link to an electronic ballot from our election vendor. All ballots must be cast no later than 4pm central time on May 29, 2026. Members who do not have email access must contact our office at 402-486-3911 to make alternative voting arrangements.
