Grievances Filed for Members with Revoked Remote Work Assignments

On July 11, 2024, the Commission on Industrial Relations (CIR) ruled on our union’s prohibited practices petition, which alleged that the State of Nebraska violated state law by refusing to negotiate over Executive Order 23-17 which would effectively end remote work for State of Nebraska employees. The CIR ruled that management can assign work locations and therefore there is no duty for the State to bargain over “remote work.” You can read a copy of the decision here. We are evaluating our options and will have an update in mid-August.

In the meantime, because some agencies have revoked remote work assignments, our union has filed the first grievances challenging contract violations resulting from the implementation of the Executive Order.

Our fight to protect remote work goes beyond those affected by this Executive Order. We must continue to advocate for the preservation of our rights to collectively bargain the terms and conditions of our employment.

If you are still currently working remotely, and management reassigns you to a new location, contact us right away to discuss the grievance process and your options.

If you’re not yet a member of our union, now is the time to join. Union members are represented free of charge during the grievance process. Non-union members pay their own costs in litigating a grievance. If you’re not a member, join us today!
