Sean Vilmont is a Senior Highway Maintenance Worker for the Nebraska Department of Transportation. He joined our union the first day he started with the State of Nebraska. As a lifetime government worker, Sean has seen how important workers rights can be. He has also seen how employees can be treated at the whim of the employer when they do not have representation. The power of joining together and collectively bargaining forces the State of Nebraska to listen to our needs. That’s Sean on the left in the photo above with some of his fellow union members.
Sean encourages all employees to join NAPE/AFSCME to strengthen our voice and to protect themselves and others from unfair practices. “We need every employee to become a union member so we have the strength in the workplace to negotiate fair wages and better benefits,” said Vilmont. “We need a strong union to protect each and every one of us. I encourage all of my colleagues to click here and join our union today.”
As a Senior Highway Maintenance Worker, Sean applies many of the skills and training that he picked up while serving in the United States Navy. He has also had the opportunity to become skilled in operating new machinery and obtained his Class A CDL, paid for by the State, thanks to our union contract. Sean finds maintaining the State Highway system interesting. Day to day activities often vary and include troubleshooting new and interesting problems and fixes while still keeping the roads open to motorists.
Sean and his colleagues are proud to keep Nebraskans moving. “I am so very proud to be a NAPE/AFSCME member who was part of our giant success during our latest contract negotiations. We accomplished what we set out to do. If you are not yet a member, I urge you to join our union and be a part of demanding the recognition for your dedication to your work.”
