Bellevue Veterans Affairs Member Says “It’s About Strength In Numbers”

Taylor Twigg, an Administrative Technician at the Eastern Nebraska Veteran’s Home, recently joined our union because he knows the importance of solidarity in the workplace.

“I’ve lived in three states in the last three years, and no matter where I go, things increase exponentially in price,” he said. “I’ve worked alongside people who were union employees and they were happier at work, so there’s an obvious connection there. I’ve always wanted to be a part of a union, and this was my first chance to.”

Taylor said that from an administrative point of view, he sees a lot of ways that things can change and be improved if employees feel empowered to do so.

“I think being a part of our union is the most important thing we can do. We see a lot of people leaving or being terminated, so doing what we can to improve things for employees will get good people to stay and, ultimately, means the veterans we care for are getting the best possible care,” he said.

Taylor said he has always been pro-labor, and you can’t be pro-labor if you aren’t pro-union.

“Strength in numbers is what it all boils down to,” he said. “I joined because it gives us more power. A lot of people seem to be in a bubble and they put up with getting less than they deserve,” he said. “When you start thinking as a collective, you can see the long-term goals.”

Our union has reached record high membership. We must continue to grow for strength in the workplace. If you’re not yet a union member, will you join us today?
