Got Involved – Serve on a NAPE/AFSCME Committee

Are you looking for an opportunity to get more involved in your union? Consider serving on one of our standing committees. Our standing committees meet to study issues, develop reports, and make recommendations to our Board of Directors for action.

NAPE/AFSCME President Melissa Haynes (DHHS, Fremont) will appoint union members to standing committees in accordance with our bylaws. The following standing committees are available for members to serve on:

Elections Committee – Erika Robles, Chair (Revenue, Lincoln)

The elections committee is responsible for overseeing the nominations and elections process for all union elections. Members of the elections committee are not able to run for office themselves.

Government Affairs Committee – Brandon Brown, Chair (Revenue, Lincoln)

The Government Affairs Committee builds relationships with elected federal, state and local officials, screens and recommends endorsement of local candidates, organizes and promotes voter registration, and encourages the highest possible degree of membership participation in support of candidates for office favorable to the goals of our union.

Membership, Organizational, and Leadership Committee – Justin Huby, Chair (Executive Director)

The Membership Committee develops our internal organizing program to increase the number of members; recruits, engages, and trains new union leaders and activists; develops an education and training program; and establishes our new member orientation program.

Recognition Committee – René Botts, Chair (DHHS, Lincoln)

The Recognition Committee recognizes and celebrates the achievements of union members and develops our programs to increase the visibility of member success stories. If you are interested in serving on a standing committee, please fill out this form no later than October 15, 2025. Committees will meet after normal working hours at NAPE/AFSMCE Headquarters in Lincoln. For those unable to attend in person committee meetings, a Zoom video conference option is available. Please consider stepping up to serve our union!
