Department of Education Negotiations Team Stands Patiently During Slow Negotiations

NAPE/AFSCME members at the Nebraska Department of Education elected are represented by our NDE member led contract negotiations team. As a constitutional agency, NDE has its own contract, separate from our code and non-code agencies. Our bargaining team at NDE has similar priorities to other state employees and has been at the bargaining table since early October.

Progress has been very slow for our NDE team, as both teams have waited for progress on the State of Nebraska code and non-code agency contract to inform decisions at the NDE bargaining table. The team hopes to make progress on our priorities when they return to the table on December 5.

Our team remains focused on ensuring wage increases outpace inflation and insurance increases, in addition to step increases for satisfactory performance. Other priorities include improvements to leave benefits including paid parental leave, and protecting remote work assignments.

The deadline to complete negotiations is December 31. Department of Education members should watch their email for further updates.
